UNTIL HE BRINGS ME HOME

You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:24-26

present reflections on the UCLA AACF class of 2014

how humbling it is to see how

little the most theological among us understand

susceptible to worldly influence the most biblical among us find ourselves

deep the struggles we face reach

far we are all from arriving

we know so much yet apply so little

much we have to learn.

indeed, no one merits a pedestal.

yet how encouraging it is to see

the strength of God made perfect in our weakness

his work, begun in us, as it’s carried out

the willingness to come out, learn more, and start to take things seriously

hunger for the Word

desperation for righteousness

vulnerability

learning and wrestling and sharing and asking for accountability

desire for more Christ.

and I am excited for more

Christ-exalting talks with you, as I am continually reminded that I am no better than anyone and just as in need of grace

getting into the Word and getting more clarity of it as we share with each other

correcting each other and helping each other fight sin as we pursue holiness

jam sessions

serving and evangelizing together

selflessly loving and serving each other, even when it’s not convenient

dying to our pride

edifying, not entertaining

creating an environment in which to desire to rightly know and lovingly obey God is encouraged, and nothing else.

my dear friends

I may never do a moment of actual pastoral ministry in my life

but to serve, encourage, teach, run with, and love you all

has been among my greatest joys

to be supported, reminded, exhorted, corrected, invested in, and loved by you all

has been evidence of so much unmerited favor

and I look forward to what is in store for the body of Christ.

Soli Deo gloria.
