good Christian humor?
Worldly jokes (e.g. “that’s what she said” jokes) are taboo. “Biblical jokes” (e.g. “plank in your eye!”) are sinfully irreverent towards the Word of God. We must, therefore, resort to this:
My roommate, Francis, came back to the room earlier today with a rather badly done haircut. Distressed, he went to the restroom to fix it with a pair of scissors....
regarding love
Welch illustrates how parasitism can be mistaken as love:
“‘I do not want to live. I cannot live without my husband [wife, girlfriend, boyfriend], I love him [or her] so much.’
And when I respond, as I frequently do, ‘You are mistaken; you do not love your husband [wife, girlfriend, boyfriend].’
‘What do you mean?’ is the angry question. ‘I just...
win or lose: reflections on notions of God in...
They joke that when you win, it must mean that God is on your side
and if you lose, it must mean that God isn’t.
But if you’re Tebow and you fumble the ball
if you’re Lin and you get 10 turnovers in a game
if you study your hardest and fail
if you compete with all your might and come out on the bottom
if you lose
does that change anything about God?
That seems quite...
all theology is practical
To be enabled to form a clear, consistent and comprehensive judgment of the truths revealed in the Scripture is a great privilege. But they who possess it are exposed to the temptation to think too highly of themselves and too meanly of others, especially of those who not only refuse to adopt their sentiments but venture to oppose them. We see few controversial writings, however excellent in...

dating
Everyone’s doing it nowadays;
college is weird.
It’s the latest trend, apparently. When did this memo get passed around?
No blogs about anything substantial, yet—mostly because I’m largely unqualified and I don’t know what I would say, anyway,
except for pursue Christ, whether you’re dating or not
and that, by the way, entails fighting emotional impurity...
Jeremy Lin
You wonderful, amazing, incredible baller.
God has brought you thus far
he will give you grace to stay humble
he will give you grace to remain bold, finding your confidence in Christ
he will give you grace to faithfully obey him
he will be glorified, as he always is.
And it is my hope that we can follow your example
I hope we can work just as hard, whether we’re studying ochem or...
shall we sin more, so that grace may abound?
The question came up during small groups on Friday at church:
If God forgives us anyway, what’s wrong with sinning?
I walked them through Romans 6, but I wish I could’ve just done an entire Desiring God book study on the spot. I really think that’s the heart issue.
Getting specific, saving grace isn’t a way of being allowed the best of both worlds. It’s getting...
slacker
If I actually tried, I’d beat everyone. I just don’t actually try.
I don’t want to study too much because I want to prove that I’m smart enough to do well without studying too much.
The moment I start working hard, I’ll more than make up for everything.
etc.
-the laziness—and self-reliance, and stupidity, and fear of man—of the slacker
Whatever...
blog inception
Actually, inception doesn’t refer to the idea of multiple layers/things within other things. It refers to the idea of planting an idea into someone’s head. But I used the word regardless, because nobody planted any other ideas for a title into my head.
Anyway, I think you should read this blog post:

when good news is old news
Every time I visit Lighthouse Community Church in Torrance, CA, the gospel is presented. I don’t know if it’s actually a policy or anything like that, but that just seems to be the way it is. Back at my home church of EFCLA, one of our youth pastors brings every message he preaches home to John 3:16, with a short gospel presentation. Even at AACF, the campus fellowship I’m in...
fret not, work hard
God is more pleased with your obedient preparation and your faithful trust in his sovereignty, even if the outcome is failing [the test, the interview, the application process, etc.]
than he is with disobedient laziness and arrogant self-dependence, even if the outcome is [by the world’s standards] ideal.
Consider Jonah, who—despite his cowardice and lack of love for the citizens of...
